My project is intended as a social commentary regarding the idea of an implemented and
fabricated reality. I believe that we - as a mass population - are conditioned and controlled; kept
distracted and disparate in a routine of prescribed ignorance. Our ‘human condition’ keeps us in a
state of partial truth and awareness: the verisimilitude of the reality disseminated through mass
media, advertising and ‘commodity fetishism’ is potent and relentless. We exist in a world of
spectacle where mass attention and opinion is controlled through both the proliferation of media
messages, as well as the censorship of important information regarding volatile, significant events.
Steadily, our relationship to nature and a ‘natural’ routine of existence has decayed: the synthesis
of materials and the rise of industrialism is synonymous with the growth of Capitalism, where
consumption and production on a mass scale are crucial. It is due to this system that we - as a
mass audience and potential consumers - are presented with a falsified reality that subtly
encourage an oppressive and numbing blindness.
My images will reflect this dichotomy between natural and synthetic - fabrication and truth - and the
innate desire to understand ourselves as creatures of nature.
